Mayor Bloomberg Visits IP Petition Room

Mayor Bloomberg stopped by the NYC Independence Party phone banks, just as we crossed the threshhold of signatures to place him on Column "C" this fall.

Candidates for NY Mayor 2009

New York City holds a partisan race for Mayor on November 3, 2009. Probably there will be these six candidates on that ballot:

1. Incumbent Mayor Michael Bloomberg on the Republican and Independence lines.
2. William C. Thompson, on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines.
3. Steve Christopher, on the Conservative line.
4. Rev. Billy Talen, Green Party.
5. Dan Fein, Socialist Workers Party.
6. Frances Villar, Party for Socialism and Liberation.

Petitioning for Mayor Bloomberg

I just finished petitioning to put Mayor Bloomberg on the 2009 ballot, on Column "C", the Independence Party line in NY. This is my third campaign for the mayor. In NY, I can not get signatures on the street. I am required to call, or have a caller, get the permission of an Independence Party member to come to their door to sign. With a large area to cover, I was the economic stimulus for the cab business.

Use the above link for more information on how to circulate or sign a petition in NY.

OR Governor Will Sign Fusion Bill

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has decided to sign an election-related bill that gives new powers to minor parties while also repealing a law that had made it harder for independents to run for office in Oregon.

The governor has decided to sign the bill despite the opposition of officials from his own Democratic Party, who think it gives minor parties too much sway. Anna Richter Taylor, the governor's spokeswoman, said Kulongoski was primarily interested in repealing the 2005 law, which he had signed with reservations at the time because he was concerned it was too onerous on non-affiliated candidates.

We can end hunger!

I've just taken action with the ONE campaign and asked my senators to set an example for the world by fully funding President Obama's request for $1.36 billion in global agricultural development funding.

This action couldn't be more urgent. Next week, President Obama and world leaders will meet in Rome for the G8 Summit. If we can convince the senate to step-up the fight against hunger now, America will set an example for the world and put pressure on other countries to invest in a global effort to end hunger.

I hope you'll join me, use the above link to tell your senators to join the fight against hunger.

Together as ONE we can make a difference!

Thanks!
